IDK for sure, but I think the level of previous generations, who made all that breakthroughs before 1970, at least partially was inspired by necessity to solve many kids problems in childhood, and solve them using own brain and thinking. From simple stealing a little fertilizer from neighbour farm to build a sugar rocket, to developing a very complex plans of how to miss a school without parents knowledge and without any consequences.
