I have had the thought that if it was TEOTWAWKI, areas near human habitation would be hunted out within a few months. I know I would take some small birds (robins and such) with just a BB gun and you would get enough calories for a day with minimal effort.
Most of prepping is being in decent shape, and with low to zero debt. Then you put 2 weeks of food in storage for a temporary event like a hurricane, then maybe a pistol with a few thousand rounds of 9mm. You should already have a CCW license though and be a decent shot.
Everything else is icing on the cake.
