I don't know, it's a mystery!
Seriously, I can only describe a few things about it from a "meta" perspective. The Anunnaki were greatly advanced technologically, as we can see in all the ancient monuments and "antiquitech" laying around all over the world, which I assume originally came from them. Certain of the Anunnaki gave advanced tech to certain humans to secure their loyalty. And note here that, as we are told by Arthur C. Clarke, we could call it either high tech or magic, so we should keep in mind that these are not distinct.
So what tech was this exactly? Well, I believe only some handful actually know. But the Bible warns strongly against practicing "sorcery", and I believe this tech is what is being referred to. (And yes, the "elohim" of the Bible are the Anunnaki.)
Why warn us off? One reason is that it's probably powerful and therefore inherently dangerous if not used properly. A second is that it may be inherently negative or evil (like it's hard to imagine constructive uses for chemical weapons.) A third is hard to describe, but I have the suspicion that use of it may somehow make one vulnerable to negative influences. An example here is the "tech" of the ouija board, of which you will find many warnings against "opening a door you don't know how to close".
I wish I knew more but as a final note, always remember that "mystery" does not mean what most people think it does, which is "something that no one knows". It actually means "secret", or "something that few know".
I might suggest flipping around the thesis of your title: the mystery schools were set up to preserve and--more importantly--to control the knowledge that was given to the Sumerians by the Anunnaki.
And let me add a note on Michael Heiser, the chief "debunker" of Sitchin: I once watched a few minutes of one of his main presentations, where he sought to show that you could completely dismiss the Anunnaki. He said something like, "Go to the Oxford Text Corpus of Sumerian Literature and search on the term 'anunnaki'. You won't find it anywhere because the Sumerians never mentioned the Anunnaki."
Strictly speaking, this is true. Sitchin came up with the term himself. HOWEVER, the Sumerians used the term "Anuna gods" instead of "Anunnaki", and they refer to the same group. There is no way Heiser was unaware of this. It's a deliberate lie.
I've only ever read a couple of paragraphs of Sitchin's work, but from what I understand of it I've come to many of the same conclusions independently.
This whole Neo-Colonialist venture in Ukraine seems destined to come to an end, and fairly soon at that. And when it does, I predict their Atlanticists masters will turn on the Ukrainian satrapy and blame the looting of the nation and all the destruction and suffering on them of the conflict, leaving out their own role of course.
It's sad not sad.
I've long given consideration to the same idea, but there is something many might consider a type of fundamental problem.
The bulk of conspiracy eventually involves people somewhere who are being ripped off, oppressed, injured, killed, etc. It's really a primary reason anyone would consider it important to study conspiracy, which is with some idea of preventing such occurrence. To invest, you're essentially "going long" on human suffering. That seems uncomfortably close to what the Elites do.
Quite a conundrum, eh?

Mariupol is down to a couple thousand Azov rats hiding in the depths of Azovstal. A full-scale assault for the final liberation of Donbas just kicked off. There are so few active military assets in the other parts of Ukraine, Russia is now systematically destroying it's entire defense industry, like factories and repair facilities.
I haven;t come across it anywhere in the news, but from a source I trust Russia just shot down a cargo plane full of "humanitarian aid", which was made up of small arms ammunition and anti-personnel mines. This is a big escalation no one wants to talk about, but Russia has no more patience for such "aid" shipments.
As I see it, on one side Russia is going to just keep hammering away systematically until all their objectives are achieved. On the other side, the West will just keep propping up the regime and pushing out PR and false flags and war crimes. It's all extremely costly and dreadful and will continue on course.
The only thing I can see altering that is if the populace of Ukraine wakes up and starts pushing back against the regime themselves. There's certainly a flood of Ukrainian nationalist resistance propaganda being pushed on them, but I have yet to see any information on whether any truth is getting through to them.
Even brave Ukie patriots would want it over with instead of everything getting ground to bits in a doomed and pointless resistance. Hopefully some of the POWs will get info back to their families and word will spread that it's over militarily and that their real enemies are right in Kiev/Kyiv/Poland.
Every time I see some normie saying something like this, I think about the titanically messed up logic behind it.
It's been estimated that in WW2, there were 100,000 small arms rounds fired per enemy casualty. That's a 0.001% "adverse event" rate. So you see, folks, bullets are both safe and INeffective. Do you have some kind of "gunfire hesitancy" problem?
What I've noticed about the upvoting (which I think is still primarily humans, while the heavy downvotes are bots and brigades) is that it just equates to people who agree with the sentiment. It's really nothing about the quality or importance or insight of the post, just "Yep, that's right!" or "I, too, hate that sumbitch!"
There is still some conspiracy, yes, but there is virtually no "theorizing" left. That is, a post will surface some conspiracy "dot" or other, but posts almost never surface multiple dots and connect them.
The same point could be made about this forum. Instead of, "Here's my theory and the evidence and analysis I used to come up with it," it's more like, "Here's my theory and also my opinion about it." It's not a good sign, assuming we'll need reasoning to fight off the Illuminati.
All that being said, I still use r/conspiracy as daily news feed to get content I can't really find elsewhere. Takes a lot of scrolling, though.
After close examination of the Rittenhouse case, I concluded that his attorneys were "in on it" while Kyle was not. There were very obvious observations and questions I had after very little research that had seemingly totally escaped them.

I read all this SH/AJ saga as consistent with AJ being controlled opposition all along. You would think that, if in earnest, Jones would exhibit evidence of the hoax in the public record of a court of law, or if the courts were corrupted, use Infowars to exhibit evidence of such corruption of the courts.

"Where Did the Towers Go?" by Dr. Judy Wood. I came across it about 2013 or so, and that was when it dawned on me we were beyond the looking glass.
First, after a dozen years how could I have never realized that the towers didn't collapse, they were turned into dust. With some background in physics, I knew there was no readily apparent energy available to do such a thing, certainly not gravitational potential energy, a bit of kinetic energy, and a little kerosene.
Second, how were all the "toasted" cars created? No ordinary physical process, such as exposure to burning debris or heat, could explain the very anomalous damage. Upon close examination, it seemed like it would be quite tedious if not impossible even to create them by hand. It seemed they had been exposed to an exotic source of energy and undergone unusual physical processes.
I have since concluded that Wood is honest but her main thesis of DEWs is incorrect, therefore they use her as a type of limited hangout. As an example, she once mentioned that there was no excess heat at the site, but I think many will recall that construction workers were complaining that the soles of their boots were melting. Excess heat did not fit into her thesis, so it did not fit into her head.
As I've put it together, what we call "demons" are actually the discarnate "spirits" of dead alien-human hybrids (the Nephilim being the first generation) that are unable to either move on to the next realm or to reincarnate like a normal human. They feed off the energy of human suffering and so cause as much of it as possible.
Even as I typed that out I know it must sound like the looniest conspiracy ramblings you may have ever come across, but I'm not joking. When you fit the scattered and distorted pieces of the puzzle back together, that's the picture that starts to take shape.

You might have to recalibrate much of your analysis with this thought: everything the Western Neo-Colonialists did was based on the threat of war, not on actual armed confrontation.
No matter what you think of their goals and methods, they are neither stupid nor insane. They knew well that Ukraine, even with the full aid of NATO, could not stand militarily against Russia. Russia sees this as an existential threat, so they are playing for all the marbles and will pursue to the very end. Don't be misled by their "delicacy", which is solely to minimize civilian casualties and destruction of civilian infrastructure. They have any hard feeling whatsoever towards the ordinary Ukrainian.
The war was over militarily within the first hour. The Ukrainian cause was easily determined to be hopeless by the end of the first day. So what we see uniformly since then is that it has turned into a "war" made up of terrorism, public relations, fakery, various grifts, and innumerable war crimes. That's the best they could salvage from a situation that they thought would never happen.
I'm all for this in theory, but in practice I concluded that in October 2016 he was either murdered or exfiltrated to a black site. All the "proofs of life" since then have only gotten more suspicious (a "wedding" with nary a single photo?). Also, a lot of conspiracy theories regarding his status are rendered down to needless controversy and a big waste of time.
Well, maybe that was the point of "keeping him alive".

Yes, I believe you've pretty much nailed the basic idea on the interbreeding. And once you accept that as a working hypothesis, you finally start looking through the correct end of the telescope.
There are numerous things, quite diverse and scattered throughout history and even current affairs, that are puzzling and even bizarre on their own but find a succinct explanation with the Anunnaki bloodlines idea. Why were so many ancient kings and notables said to be giants? Why do kings say they have the "divine right" and emperors say they have the "mandate of Heaven"? Why do so many claim to have descended from the gods? Why are the Elite so obsessed with bloodlines? Why did pharoahs wear the uraeus? Why is there all this serpent worship everywhere? Why are Jupiter and Moses and others often portrayed with horns? Well, it goes on and on.
You might like to give some reconsideration to the Bible. As I have been able to understand and "decode" it, it mainly concerns certain human interactions with the Anunnaki. There are many aspects of it which Biblical scholars simply wave away like that bad smell that can be explained quite precisely with an understanding of the Anunnaki and their relationship to humans.
