I was looking into this a while ago and from what i can tell, Darwin started out interested in priesthood but changed his views after meeting a man named Charles Lyell. Charles is the man who pretty much started the whole anti creation movement. He was responsible for introducing the idea of a geological column which Darwin would base evolution off of.
