In addition to what others mention, if you are using an android device like a chromecast, Google tv or Android phone look at using a different app. I really like smarttube. It blocks ads as well as in video sponsor segments. Makes quality of life much more tolerable on youtube.

I think because it's 3rd party and you have to sideload it, they have less visibility and control as compared to an app store app.

I also use ReVanced for the YT app on my phone (it patches a slightly old version of the app to give you YT premium for free).

Every time I'm watching YouTube vids, they show me ads for "Pie" .... which is an adblocker.
Youtube gets real pissed at me after about 5-10 videos and says “sign in to protect our community.”
