I still think ubuntu is the best choice hands down for beginners. All these other flavors have value, but for beginners it's about the availability of online resources to assist those who have trouble getting the confidence to push forward with Linux. Ubuntu hands down has more online resources for helping newbies get through the tech hurtles..
