Coincidentally, just last night I listened to this old interview:

He could pass me on the street and I would not recognize him. I have never heard him speak nor seen him in any video of any proceedings or interviews. Before he became a US Senator, he could have been the guy delivering my mail.

It's always striking to me, these things written down so, so long ago and that I now see playing out before us all. I was thinking about what I was going to write when I checked the reference to see the fuller context and saw it right there:

What I had planned on mentioning was where I saw the dividing line, the barrier that few conspiracy theorists--or researchers and scholars of any type--get past. That is, they love to tell you "just how right they are, and were all along". They are full to overflowing with certitude, leaving room for nothing new.

It's not that I think this guy was right on the money, but he was at least alert to the idea that the psychological dynamics of politics work very differently than what almost everyone supposes. IOW, it's a natural result that deranged, violent freaks are in positions of power.
