Is there some reason why no entity in Russia, or some country friendly to Russia, can provide insurance? Last I heard, BRICS accounted for 40% of global GDP and that number was rising.
And why could the Russian government not simply insure transport directly, if it deemed that desireable? The US government seems to finance and backstop half the things that go on in the US and other vassal states.
Well, the US military is not above blowing up other people's pipelines, among their other crimes and outrages, so I suppose if they're going to start sinking tankers, then that's what they're going to do.
Plus, if some tanker carrying Russian crude with western insurance had an "accident" of any type, would the insurer ever be allowed to pay out? I think that's the last thing that would happen.
