You have to realize what you can and can't control in this world, and then act accordingly. We can't control how tyrannical those in power get. When the tyranny reaches a boiling point, if the only thing I can control is turning my house into a SWAT team orphan factory, then so be it. We all die, and I choose to die on my feet.
In the mean time, there's a lot you can do to reduce your dependency on the system, and given how panicky you appear to be, you haven't done any work towards that. When you don't need the system to survive, you sleep pretty well at night.
