Many people have learned that seed oils (soybean oil, canola oil, corn oil, sunflower oil, safflower oil, cottonseed oil, etc.) are not good for you. For better health, olive oil and avocado oil are preferred.
So companies have started making products with only olive oil and avocado oil. Even though these products are much more expensive, people are buying them for the promise of no seed oils.
The problem? The companies are not honest. They attach labels to these products claiming 100% avocado oil, or 100% olive oil, but it just isn't true.
The University of California at Davis published a study about a month ago in which they tested a number of food products for authenticity and label accuracy.
You can also get a PDF version of this study at the above site.

In this summary, a checkmark in the far right column is good. The lack of a checkmark is bad, indicating false labeling.
Olive oil, particularly when it is extra virgin and minimally processed, is good for you. We consumed olive oil for millennia. This is how it used to be all over the World, before 1900s. No seed oils, no mandatory vaccination, no fluoride being added to drinking water. People were healthy, had lots of children, no infertility issues. People haven't heard yet of autism, diabetes or cancer or ADHD. Those came later.
Not all together true. My grandmother, who at the age of 95 and who died in 1995 said that when she was a young girl, if you got sick, you had a good chance of dying. That if you wanted hot water, you had to boil it, if you wanted to use the rest room, you went outside, and in winter, used a bed pan. That there was no antibiotics or clean water. It's just a fact.
Now, I think that the greatest innovations that made the world safer were clean water, sanitation, electrification, and antibiotics. Those were the things that got us here. Pray we don't loose them. I was never a fan of the jabs. Pure blood here.
I agree with you. Sanitation is extremely important, most plumbers will tell you that it was water infrastructure, sewage systems and clean water, that eradicated disease. And they’re right.
Amen. Pure blood here as well.
I don't think it's good for you in any form. Plant oils are not proven to be healthy, the science is corrupted
How's that?
Numerous studies have confirmed plant oils rich in unsaturated fats do have proven benefits, they lower LDL cholesterol, improve insulin sensitivity, and are associated with reduced cardiovascular risk compared to saturated fats.
Yup, I used to be on the same boat. Gotta take the carnivore rabbit hole and see for yourself. Can't be convinced by a stranger in the comments
The big issue for me in consuming seed oils is the hexane that is used to extract the seed oils from the seeds. Hexane is so toxic that many scientists don't allow it to be used in their research labs because of the fumes alone.
This study somehow didn't measure the amount of hexane in the sample. Granted, it's really hard to detect, given how little of it is needed to make you sick. But still, that's the thing I'm worried about, not slight adulterations.
Additionally, there are some olive oils that use hexane to extract fully from the olives. So those are olive oils that I do not want. We only buy the extra virgin olive oil rather than the crappy cooking olive oil that may contain hexane.
And you can get clean seed oils if you buy oils that have been extracted by cold press.
Finally, someone who understands. I believe the cold pressed market is gaining recognition. I can easily see the market moving that direction as more people become aware and the price comes down with market share
Yes, the -> Organic 1st. Spring harvest "extra-virgin Olive oil" Cold-pressed <- is the best.
I read enough carnivore diet content books and studies that show that NO plant oil is preferred. Use animal fats, butter, cream, ghee, lard, tallow.
Never olive or avocado or anything else from a plant
A minority of olive oil data points are within 1 to 2% of expected compositions.
A majority of avocado oil data points are within 4 to 5% of expected compositions.
They also made their own "reference chips" for comparison. Then only tested two batches of products from different times. So much for repeatability.
This is not a great study. I'd want to see it replicated before I consider it valid.
You get what you deserve if you're buying commercially processed foods.
Take a little swig of the olive oil --- the good stuff should burn your throat and make you cough.
So does motor oil...
smells different
Making your own mayo is a pain in the ass.
Where do you get your mayo from?
I don't use mayo. It's disgusting.

But this is easier than you think.
I've made it using a very similar recipe.
When you only use a couple tablespoons each week, it's not worth it to make it yourself when it spoils in 2 weeks in the fridge and you can't freeze it.
Do you press your own olives‽ that would be crazy cool
I have 3 trees growing --- not producing yet.
That's awesome dude! Good on'ya
I'm in Texas --- we go from 15°F to 115°F
Hard to find plants for this range.
I'm growing Arbequina olives
I give them shade in the late hot afternoons.
I'd give'm a go
General tips for fruit trees.
Trim in early spring --- hollow out the centers like a big vase.
Nitrogen in the spring and summer (I like calcium nitrate). New runners will bear fruit next year so leave them.
Winter
Everything but nitrogen --- like a 0-12-12, 0-20-20, etc. fertilizer, before and after dormancy in winter --- this is supposed to max fruit production. Hose it down with Neem oil solution before dormancy. I'm doing peaches, nectarines (also peaches), apples, arctic mandarin oranges.
Cheers! Love those, that's super cool for yous.
I'd want to plant them in my neck of Texas (Piney Woods) and the climate is very good for them here. A corner of the pasture gets a ton of moisture from runoff, but it's inconsistent. ... that and by the time they'd be fruiting, I'd be under them.
Don't plant them in a ditch ---- plant them next to a ditch where it still stays well above the water in a heavy rain --- so the roots won't drown. Fruit trees need a lot of sun so watch the shady pine trees.
That would be fun, but I actually trust the label on a can of olive oil.
Lay's? Not so much.
I think I distrust almost everything these days.
That's smart. It would be foolish to trust anything about the experience we just had with the Covid Plandemic. They lied about everything, no exception.
Indeed.
Only buy Olive oil in a GLASS container, not a "can".
( Same with Avocado, or Coconut oil = different purpose)
Can is a generic term in this case.
Also, make sure it's a green or amber glass, not clear as UV light will make it go rancid faster.
Dark green it is.
Yes ... MmmmMMMmmm.
Ok, Yoda. :P
100% axle grease.
Apart from the question of buying mass-market "potato" chips and other crap, there is another question - When you sell a brass ring labeled as golden one for the price of golden ring it is a plain fraud with jail time. Isn't that applied to food in exactly same way?
And one more question: if we talk about "potato" chips, isn't that the same as selling starch powder mixed with salt as cocaine? Interesting, if you get caught selling fake drugs that are not drugs at all, will you be sentenced for selling drugs despite the fact that starch with salt is not a drug in any way? :)
Checking potato chips should be started not from testing oil, but from checking chips appearence. If they are all the same size, perfectly round, have no any natural irregularites and are evenly coloured - it is not even potato chips in the first place. Perfectly cylindrical potatoes without buds that will fry evenly does not exist. :)
In the US, big corporations just lobby (bribe) the regulating agency to redefine the word
So, you can't be shure that you buy butter, milk, cheese and other stuff, not margarine, some emulsion, cheese-like product and so on?
Strange, I thought that all that strict US trademark and IP laws cover product naming too in similar way. Like you can't use the word "milk" on a bottle of something that is not a milk or made from milk.
For the most part, things are correctly labeled. They always dance around the edges with these definitions, such as country of origin on products. It is important to read the label of contents on the package that is always in small print and on the back. If they wanted to sell butter that's not 100% cream, they will add a little word below butter that says "substitute". A lot of deception if you're not careful. Probably why most people in this country believe they are numbing down public education so people will be lazy and not read everything.
We have that shit with tiniest possible labels too. Mostly, to mention chicken meat in sausages where it shouldn't be. Traditionaly, sausages here should be made only from beef and pork, it is not prohibited to add chicken to sausages. Annoys a lot to find proper ones among hundred of varieties.
Most food is under strict control about name on the label. It is even stricter than trademarks and other stuff. If it is labeled as "butter", then it should be made from 100% cream. No plants oil or any other substitutes allowed. Quality may differ among manufacturers, but in any case it will be real butter. Infringers will be punished with huge fines, at minimum, or with counterfeit criminal case.
I thought that in US it should be even more stricter, not because of government control, but due to possibility of that multimillion moral damage suits against manufacturers, like ones that forced stupid big "do not eat" on small silicagel bags in shoes and electronics.
We can't determine if the companies themselves are willfully engaging in fraud or if the fraud is upstream and the companies making the products that go to the consumer are being defrauded by suppliers of their oil.
COM(together)anies contradicts hONEst...one cannot hone self by joining companies with another. Problem needs to adapt to solution...not join company with other problems.
Hone (to sharpen; whet) refers to sharpening ones formed discernment within the fluidity of knowl-EDGE.
Mark/merg - "boundary" implies balance for ones choice...not the checkmarks suggested by the choice of another.
Notice that a check attacks the king to kill him aka checkmate from Arabic shah mat (the king died). So you better check yourself before you wreck yourself.
Nature doesn't label native...natives shape artificial labels to distract each other from nature. Any label represents a category aka cata (against) agora (public assembly) of the mind if held onto.
There can be only one right LAB (work) EL (God) employing each thing within it.
