I personally know people who were suckered into joining the military due to things like patriotism after 9/11. Hell, I joined the military myself for several reason, one of which was patriotism.
Patriotism is, theoretically, every citizen's responsibility.
When the military's advertisements focus on patriotism and show white men ready to defend the nation, and not bullshit women's empowerment and appeals to your pocketbook...then you know a war is planned.
It is one among many. No one forces them to join the military. Really its the parent's fault for not instilling moral values in the child who goes and joins the military. I get your point though, how could they know? The education system brainwashes them into thinking the military is righteous, the financial system robs them of their time and energy, the government robs them of their savings and the church teaches them not to worry about it all because they just need to be good so they can get into heaven.
That being said we are in an age where ignorance is a choice given how much information is available. So at some level they are culpable. Especially so if they realize that they were sold a lie and still stay in it for the paycheck.
Doesn't bother me one bit. She raised her hand to serve, along with it she gets some nice benis. BUT, when the time comes for her to raise a weapon in defense of this country she had better be there. If she doesn't then she can sit in a stockade for a few years. Oh, if she gets killed or wounded while serving on the front lines, well, that is what she signed up to do, also.

Contrary to what people want you to believe, the only freedoms and borders our military is protecting is Israel's, not America's.
