IDK for sure, but I think the level of previous generations, who made all that breakthroughs before 1970, at least partially was inspired by necessity to solve many kids problems in childhood, and solve them using own brain and thinking. From simple stealing a little fertilizer from neighbour farm to build a sugar rocket, to developing a very complex plans of how to miss a school without parents knowledge and without any consequences. As for Iran - Unlike Israel, Iran does not depend on desalinisation plants at all. Unlike Israel, Irans power network is built on Soviet blueprints, so it couldn't be destroyed in "one week". US physically does not have enough means and ammunition to do that. Taking in account that all US bases in region destroyed or severely damaged, your "could certainly do this" become stupid cope.
