The type of clothes you have on make a big difference. A synthetic sweater will retain more static electricity than a cotton t-shirt. Its crazy that that charge will never go away until it is discharged into something. You can rub a balloon and the charge can be measured on it days latter. This is how you get fires at gas pumps in the winter, someones sweater touching the car near the gas fumes.
