I had never seen most of those users posting, and suddenly they were everywhere with some ridiculous inside drama I'd never heard of and things about antinatalist vs natalist, calling each other pedophiles and nonsense that doesn't belong in conspiracy.
Regarding language, historically people could disagree here even with some insults traded. I will never report someone for throwing in an insult out of anger during a discussion.

That's why we have rules, people can follow them or leave but rule 1 seems to be too difficult a task for some so now there's free for all threads.
The reason people supported your modship was to deal with the spam. That means the jeet, the imp, and JG5 (and their alts). Nobody was clamoring for word- and tone-policing. Now you’re allowing yourself to become a prop/tool/cudgel for the very people who have been spamming this place to death.

How do I explain discernment to others that won't accept it? We need a stable meeting place to what the discernment is measured against, in this case the rules, in c/Christianity it's God's commands.

I don't see what is hard about this rule. If you make alts to harass and start drama, as some dishonest actors clearly do, you are gone. Take that behavior elsewhere, simple as that.

A lot of new people started dropping by after the initial requests began and then went to meta, if I remember the chain of events correctly, u/Neo1 started threads in c/Conspiracies and then u/SwampRangers took that to mean genuine interest and took it to c/Meta and then an even greater influx was seen here, which I don't hold him accountable for creating.
