all of the photos i have seen of destroyed russian tanks have had incredible amounts of rust on them, and are 10 year old models
either the Russians are sending in their crap equipment or the photos are of the destroyed equipment that has been sitting there for longer than 2 weeks.
Send in old tanks until Ukraine uses all their anti-tank missiles, threaten other countries with nukes to not re-supply them, they get re-supplied anyway and Russia has to think really hard if they wan to let a big-boy off the chain.
Tanks aren't to be used for more than mobile artillery since drones and computer guided anti-tank missiles became common, they're expensive and somewhat obsolete so why waste money on new ones if you're Russia and don't have a lot of money?
Russia now has the T-14 tank with advance counter measures that can stop drone and anti-tank missiles. It can even stop incoming sabots shot from other tanks.
Russia likely has the most advanced tank in the world.
Reactive armor works pretty well against ground fired kinetic and chemical rounds. Anti-javelin type systems are not 100%. I wouldn't want to take my chances in a tank against modern anti-tank systems. Offense/defense is a constant race, you probably knew that.

Russia offered to leave Ukraine alone in exchange for DOnbas and Crimea and a promise of neutrality from Ukraine, that might have been what Russia wanted all along, not a total occupation, just Donbas and Crimea which have mostly people that wanted to leave Ukraine anyway.

If the country does not want you, occupation is expensive and possibly not worth it, USSR found that out and maybe Putin learned that lesson.
