I work construction, this shit is deliberate. If they let this shit keep going entrepreneurial meth-heads are gonna be tearing apart walls for scrap wood and copper.

With wood prices like they are, pouring concrete will be cheaper than a wooden deck ffs. Complete and utter bullshit.

My friend was in the process of putting up a barn, now he decided its cheaper to buy a $8k saw mill and cut logs up from his 300 acre property.

i was talking to a dump truck driver a few days ago and he said they're having a hard time finding enough loads for drivers because all the concrete guys are struggling to find and concrete, so a huge number of dump trucks are sitting because they gravel that they'd normally be hauling was for all the concrete guys.

The Fed made it clear in 2008 their only objective is to make sure asset prices never stop rising. If houses lose value most americans are under water.

Americans are already screwed. I live in a place where the median income is $50k but the median house costs over $400k. The kids who were born here will not be able to live here once they move out. In fact there's plenty of people who are married, working professional jobs, and still living with their parents. And prices just continue to climb. I looked around for a place recently and the trailerpark craphole a few blocks from here (that's generally full of sex offenders) on the edge of society is charging $200k per trailer. It's absolutely insane.

Same thing they do with oil, milk, grain, anything they want to keep the price high on. Once the price of something spikes, they will do anything they can to keep it high. And since we no longer have functional monopoly laws, what's going to stop them?

the toilet paper insanity of 2020 was just a preview

if you have access to a resource that is going up in price to do expected scarcity, greed would tell you to hoard it to maximize profit, creating the scarcity

Typical bullshit, artificially raising prices. I co own a construction company and it's getting to be where putting a fucking slab will be cheaper than putting in a wooden deck for the same square footage.

Lumber futures?

Lumber is a commodity. Commodities are hedged by investors such that lot prices will go up or down by a certain date (see the film Trading Places). My guess is the value to hold is better than the revenue to sell so the squeeze is causing retail prices to spike dramatically. The BofA projected a near term bout of hyper inflation (double digit price increases due to fiat $ printing known as monetary easing). I suspect other commodity prices are likewise reflecting this market uncertainty and the flushing of cash into the system. It is a process that destroyed Germany, Italy several times and most South American countries one or more times. Venezuela is the most recent victim of Marxist Monetary Theology that has never worked in history except to destroy the foundations of a nation.

Is the lumber in the video waiting for Biden to waive the Canadian tariff?

I'm planning two post frame structures right now and will probably be waiting this out.

This lumber price hike has also added nearly $13,000 to the market value of an average new multifamily home, NAHB said in a post. This translates into households paying $119 a month more to rent a new apartment, the association said, adding that its representatives on April 29 held a “productive” virtual meeting with White House staff from the Domestic Policy Council, National Economic Council, and the Office of the Vice President.

Anyone who's seen more than one lumber yard, especially before 2020, knows that this isn't very much at all. Hardly any, really.

Could lots of that lumber be waiting to go and get pressure treated? I heard there is a huge backlog in pressure treating. You cant even get the brown stuff you have to buy the green stuff.

Doesn't surprise me. Lumber "shortages" and yet people aren't buying as expected.

Time to make that steel deck I always dreamed of.
