I've done breath meditation for 10 years, I've since switched to something more visual. The breath meditation I did focuses the air touching the upper lip on the exhale and inhale. The thing with breath is that it's very subtle which means most of the experiences will also be subtle not visual (but it can happen) so body tingles, energy up and down spine, precise control of your awareness.
Awesome so glad this made it, and there were some excellent options in the running which could easily have been picked. A little busy right now, so I’ll just copy an older comment of mine to potentially spark some discussion and return with some fresh thoughts when I’ve got a minute. edit: new comment is at the bottom, seems like the downvote shills don’t appreciate the empowerment of the masses
After seeing it (almost) first hand in this footage, I was forced to re-evaluate my stance on every other reference to magic throughout history.
In addition to the video footage, in the past westerners have been able to seek out Chang and train under him. A Greek engineer did so for years and wrote a book trying to apply a scientific approach to what he witnessed and experienced. This book really shines an interesting light on not just the what observed in the video, but investigates possible answers for the how as well. In addition, it's just a highly engrossing book.
I believe John Chang is by far the most convincing case of human potential exceeding the limits set by our current paradigms. A thorough look into him and the mystery around him is able to shine a light on the many dark and seemingly disconnected areas that conspiracy research takes us.
Note: If your only contribution will be to cry "fake" or bring up some non-sequitur about Randi and his ilk of mental midgets, look up the Neurophysicist, Neurologist, Medical Doctor, Documentarian, and the Mechanical Engineer who helped design the F-18 fighter jet with General Dynamics, and debunk them first. They saw Chang with their own eyes and walked away convinced. Linking to a video where someone makes a purple fire using chemicals proves literally nothing more than your own lack of comprehension.
A more well studied practice, known as Tummo and practiced by Tibetan buddhists, is quite similar to the foundations of Chang's practice.
"During visits to remote monasteries in the 1980s, Benson and his team studied monks living in the Himalayan Mountains who could, by g Tum-mo meditation, raise the temperatures of their fingers and toes by as much as 17 degrees. It has yet to be determined how the monks are able to generate such heat."
Dr. Herbert Benson of Harvard Medical, also published in the journal nature.
"The researchers collected data during the unique ceremony in Tibet, where nuns were able to raise their core body temperature and dry up wet sheets wrapped around their bodies in the cold Himalayan weather (-25 degree Celsius) while meditating."
Similarly, Wim Hof has demonstrated a Westernized approach to g-Tummo that removes the more spiritual or "traditional" aspects in favor of a pragmatic "just what works" approach. In this study he taught 25 subjects his method, and they were all able to overcome the negative effects of an endotoxin injection, while the control group who didn't receive the training fell ill with flu-like symptoms

Some interesting facts:
The newspaper “The Epoch Times” as many of you may know is run by a “fringe religious group” or “minority oppressed by the CCP” depending on where you get your propaganda. However the group behind The Epoch Times (the Falun Gong) may have been persecuted first for their popularization of ancient traditional knowledge, and in response became the free speech/anti-communist voices they are now.
Thanks to the constant cross-pollinations between the various Asian nations, many of the same ideas have been translated into English in similar but different ways. Learning the nuance of these words and their origins sheds interesting light.
For example:
Qi=Chi
Gong=Kung (think Kung-Fu)
Thus Qi Gong = Chi Kung, more terms to broaden your search
Dao=Tao , (if you’ve ever wondered the difference between Taoism and Daoism)
Read the appendices of the book linked in the OP for an EXTREMELY interesting dissection of these energies from a western or scientific perspective
This energy seemingly specific to conscious beings, or bio-energy, has been noticed by many cultures on earth and been given as many names. What I hope to do is set people on the path of linking the various strands of ancient knowledge so that together we can approach closer to Truth. I do not assert that anything I’ve posted is indisputable fact, but it rises far above what simple minds will instinctively lash out and cry “hoax” to.
Three scholars hear of the Dao. The wisest scholar dedicates every further moment to its study. The wise scholar is intrigued, but unsure of how to proceed. The ordinary scholar bursts out in laughter.
This energy is real, in fact so real that it saturates every inch of existence its amazing people can't see it. You can learn to see it as well if you want to, but I warn you once you start seeing it you won't be able to go back to a normal mind. If you want to know how to, then hit me back up.
Well teaching everyone no, that would be too much energy and I mean literally there are certain rules you'll understand later on. Publicly though if you want to start I will happily point you in the right direction. Look into the following areas: 1. Fire Kasina (a kasina object is looked at as a totality but you can use other objects) I specified fire because it's best for visuals. 2. Visual Snow can be used instead of Kasina if you already have this “medical condition”. The static you see with visual snow, that looks like tv static is energy in its base form, this can be developed by observation and thought manipulation. Audio static is also applicable, look up the Ganzfeld effect to try examples of this. 3. Hypnagogia, the main aim of the previous two of course is to induce hypnagogia, are they really just hallucinations? I wonder...Again I'm warning if you're mind isn't strong you're like to induce psychosis once you start seeing the aether with eyes open. Just like you can see things other things can see you.
Was involved in sports.
I used to change my breathing while visualising my competitions and I think this was the biggest time of improvements ever. Along with breathing patterns at the comps.
So it helped my potential to get to a higher standard. No question.
Interesting post
Animal = Latin - anima (“a current of air, wind, air, breath, the vital principle, life, soul”), sometimes equivalent to animus (“mind”)
Spirit/Inspiration = Latin - spiritus ("spirit" or "breathing"),
Yoga = Sanskrit - (The Upanisads, Epics, Puranas and Yoga Sutra used the word ‘yoga’ with a meaning of ‘controlling the body, senses, mind and intellect’.)
Breathing, like sleep, is one of the most misunderstood aspects of existence (by everyone, I’m not putting my own limited understanding above others, just sharing what I’ve come to think). Simultaneously obvious yet mystifying. What seem to be prerequisite conditions of existence, taken utterly for granted by almost all of us.
I think they are entwined aspects of each entity’s innate “technology of existence”. Stars inhale Hydrogen and exhale Helium. Plants inhale CO2 and exhale O2. Man (formed from clay) inhales a mixture of O2 and N2 and exhales CO2 and N2. Our body, through literally NO conscious effort, inhales the breath of life, promulgates this motive spirit to every cell in your body, and exhales the byproducts. It also, through likewise NO conscious effort, utilizes the mysterious state of sleep to repair itself, refresh itself, inspire itself through dreams, and revitalize itself for the next day. All of these miracles occurs through NO conscious effort, so what could be accomplished with conscious effort?
As an example, let’s imagine holding our breath as one small aspect of this hidden science/technology. Most people can’t hold their breath for more than a minute or so, but did you know that with a brief amount of practice you can hold your breath for 3,4, even 5 minutes? Did you know that for thousands of years this was common practice among humans living on the coast?. Did you know that some people, like David Blaine, have pushed this to absurd limits beyond 17 minutes?.
Research even indicates that how you breathe can radically affect your health. A disturbing trend of rampant mouth breathing (lol, no not an insult) due to the increased consumption of processed foods has led to a rise in snoring, sleep apnea, asthma, autoimmune disease, and allergies.
What does this return to? The breath, the spirit of life, which is the core of Chang’s Mo Pai, the core of the Tummo Yoga, and the core of Wim Hof’s practice. All three of these are relatively well studied by western science, extremely well documented in terms of tangible effects in respondents, and utterly mind blowing when understanding about them begins to coalesce. These are among the few remaining strands of “user documentation” on the “technology of existence” I referenced above.
As mentioned by another user, hypnagogia, or the thin line that separates sleep from wake, is fundamentally tied to the breath and this hidden science. This is the state wherein you can tap into the same energy source that shapes a fetus from undifferentiated stem cells to a fully formed creature. This state shows up in all manner of weird places when you attempt to understand human existence. In addition to this “source connection” it can be used to induce astral projection, it can be tied to the well documented “flow-state” of certain highly skilled professionals like musicians and athletes. And one may be able to “bootstrap” themselves to versions of this state through certain entheogenic compounds that have coexisted with man since man first woke.
I’d love to say I have things figured out, but the reality is far from that. However I have looked into these practices for a while, and through trial and error have come to some limited conclusions. Among these are:
grounding to the earth, either through direct contact (no insulating materials between the perineum and the ground) , or some method of grounding, such as a buried wire run to your root chakra
A deep, deep state of meditation is the only productive kind. You could sit “meditating” for one hundred hours over the course of a month, but only spend seconds in the relavent state of meditation
Sexual energy, generated by/in/with your root chakra (perineum) and its interaction with your sexual organs, is the fundamental understanding. Like blood, it is not to be spilled lightly.
Unfortunately, due to the miraculous nature of this technology of existence, and its currently unexplained nature, matters are rife with charlatans and lies and deceivers. One must use their own God given gift of free will to discern reality for themselves. I’ve attempted to share some of what I’ve come to understand so far, but I know the only thing I know for sure is how much I don’t know, so please, share anything this inspires you to!
I'll add the reason hypnagogia is such a special state is its liminality. You can draw “power” from anything where two opposites cross. Hences the major significance of equinoxes, sun rise/set etc.. Hypnagogia is our way to achieve it on the micro scale.
Most legit systems will be similar in a way. So I follow a system that consists of having a truly silent mind as the main step, a day practice and a night practice. Any legit system you follow that isn't stringing you along will have a similar format. So Kasina or Bon Dzogchen are excellent places to start as they are complete systems that won't limit you and won't dangle enlightenment infront of you.
One thing you'll always notice is that these Masters always tell you to ignore siddhis or experiences during meditation. It's a dead end path to follow them, those guys make enlightment an unreachable goal. Complete systems such as Dzogchen won't do that, there are others but I won't mention them here. Once you dive into your experiences you'll find there are only a handful of places that describe what you experiences if you scour the net hard enough.
I only provide 1 system, if someone really wants to know they'll eventually find out if they search hard enough. No point in mentioning the other systems either since they're all similar. There is the problem of using many systems and never making any progress because while it all feels like new info it's essentially the same thing and practice tends to suffer from it. Finally there is intent, the thing that allows us to affect this reality.
Interesting point regarding your #1 grounding to the earth point. You mentioned a buried wire run to your root chakra, and this makes me think of the similarities of electrical grounding vs spiritual grounding. What if they are essentially the same thing? Nikola Tesla talked about discovering a new form of electricity that would arc in the form of a wispy fluidic white substance. This form of electricity wasn't affected by magnetic fields so it couldn't have had moving charge like normal electricity. It makes sense to me that what he discovered is actually this vital form of energy that goes by many names, Qi, Prana, etc.
That's likely why his technology was buried. In this point in our current cycle information on this type of topic has to be something someone seeks, not something that's just thrown out there. You couldn't just have this type of energy be the primary known form of energy known to man.
I think there is definitive overlap between “yin chi / yang chi” and “magnetic energy / electric energy”.
If you check the documentary I linked above, a master practitioner is able to produce an electric current of some kind (measured on an ammeter, and a lightbulb, and physically felt by other people as “shocks”). Additionally there is clear evidence of magnetism or an analog of magnetism for chi. This is harder to explain, but the book I linked above does attempt to understand this interplay.
I recommend you check out both. And I agree on Tesla, and I think the Great Pyramid was constructed to aid in harnessing this energy. Recent research shows it literally accumulates electrons through its shape:
Horse stance is the quickest way to confirm the reality of chi, in my experience. Extremely valuable practice.
I really think the direction of our times is the final unveiling. All that’s been hidden from recorded history finally bursting forth all at once, from everywhere on earth.
We just need to be ready to ride the real horse when the time comes, after having sharpened our discernment.
