So we've discovered that evil people are evil all year round. What a depressing ending.
Or, we've just discovered that shit happens all the time, and it's probably not all connected.
You're trying to pull similarities between a church burning down in France and a bridge collapse in the US because they happened in the same month, different years.
The fact that these kind of things happen all the time, all over the world, show that unfortunately it's just the case that bad things might happen sometimes.
SOmetimes it's because of evil people, sometimes it's because of a bad sequence of events.
They've already stated to me their conclusion is that the known world is (at least mostly) flat (or at least, that all signs point to this being the answer), which is exactly how I would describe a flat earther.
I'm not sure why they don't want to describe themselves as something that they basically are.
You're misunderstanding me.
My whole point is that you look stupid because your first thought was that it was some cat shill conspiracy, hence my first comment
My worry isn't that you're tricking anyone into believing it, I'm just commenting that you look stupid for running away with this thought instead of just asking a question.
Nope. I just thought it was dumb for someone to first assume cat bots before doing any research into the topic and then ask the co piracy sub what’s going on
This question had already come up a couple times on c/askscored, so I already knew that there weren’t cat bots.
It’s significantly less suggestive if your post was “Why are there so many users who have cats as their profile picture?”
Here, you’re simply asking a question about an observation you made without suggesting any outcome that you know nothing about.
Your question "Cat shills?" suggests your own answer
If you didn't mean it intentionally, that's fine, but the fact is your question does suggest outcome, which is especially silly since a minimal amount of research would show that your answer is preposterous
Well, the first is that your post is titled "Cat shills?" which immediately sets the tone that you're looking for a discussion on bots/shills.
The primary reason though is that at no point in your post did you ever ask the question "Why are there so many cat pictures?"
Instead, you first state your observation
Ever since this site enabled profile pictures I'm seeing an unusually high number of profile pics consisting of AI generated cats.
And then, you give your suspicions on why you're seeing it. You give your own answer even though you've done zero research. The only question that you ask is what people think about your conclusion
This isn't asking the question. This is stating your conclusion then asking other people to talk about it
You mean exactly what I did
No, because that's not what you did.
You first framed the issue as a conspiracy and then you asked the question.
But it's stupid because I considered a wrong possibility before I knew the answer
No, it's stupid that you prioritized the wrong possibility before doing any research.
Explain to my why bot farms are a ridiculous thing to wonder about and shouldn't be something to consider.
Because you did zero research into the issue (cat profile pics) before coming to that consideration
The smart thing to do would be first to actually do a bit of research, such as asking the question to those who are more familiar with the topic, or searching for others who may have asked the question, before first considering that it's some massive conspiracy
It's not that you're too stupid to just know that devs made this happen, it's that you're too stupid to ask the logical question
No, you don't got it
Once again, just asking questions is a GREAT way to do research. It's an excellent way to learn more info about what you're confused about by asking those who are more familiar with the topic
It's the framing it as a potential conspiracy FIRST that's the idiocy.
Which apparently never involves asking questions.
Then you're an idiot for thinking that's the takeaway you should be getting here. I already told you asking questions is a great way of gaining knowledge.
Framing it as a potential conspiracy before doing any research is what's stupid.
Why not? What is the contradiction?
