Buy Only Apple or Google (Android) phones, because we have root backdoors on both platforms
Use only RCS messages as they are sent 100% via Apple and Google servers (and not merely passed through your telco operators), and NSA has taps on Apple/Google servers, but it is getting so cumbersome to have taps on all the world's different telco servers, so NSA can't properly listen to all unencrypted SMS messages (but it is trivial to read all RCS messages from two server sources: Apple and Google).
So, for you, do the opposite :
Use a dumb phone. GrapheneOS version on Pixel phones or a Chinese phone withOUT any Google Mobile Services.
Do not use RCS messaging for anything that you dont want your government and the whole world to know (naturally the same applies to Apple iMessages, WhatsApp, SnapChat, X.com, IG and other Big some messengers). Use SimpleX, Briar or Gossip (and for not so important stuff, just plain old unencrypted SMS, it works for all)
