We have a new rule in the sidebar:
Rule 2: Don't abuse the report function.
Abuse of the report function includes: making multiple reports that are not justified, making multiple spurious reports, reporting comments for behavior that you yourself have just engaged in, making multiple targeted reports of a user you are in an argument with regardless of the content of the comments.
Think before you report. Repeated abuse of the report function could result in a temporary ban.
I'm working on a new rules page for this forum which will explain each rule in a bit more detail - I don't want to clutter up the sidebar too much with explication.
Clarification is a good thing. There certainly are people who abuse reporting and thus deserve fair warning, and they continue, get banned. I remember the days on Reddit when the JIDF gang attacked people with contrary views, to get rid of them. We do not want that to ever happen here.
And given this place isn't controlled like reddit is, this is a prime target for abuse/subversion.
This was sarcasm right? I can't tell if it's funny or if you believe it.
Use logic why I am right or wrong instead of being emotional.
Not emotional, you view the world with rose colored lenses. There isn't one bit of the Internet that isn't controlled, not for some time.
I was not aware this was an issue before someone accused me of reporting them when I thought we were having a great discussion. We weren't agreeing, but sometimes that's the fun.
The entire new rule sounds like the reason we left Reddit.
maybe make rules and guidelines, rules being reportable.
rule 1 is vague. maybe change to 'threats of violence' or something.
'being respectful' or attacking the argument is really more of a guideline. if users feel that is being violated, they can issue a block against a user themselves, they don't need to whine/narc to a mod.
if a user gets blocked by enough people for the above, maybe consider ban.
the other option would be to make a separate 'butthurt report' for violations of guidelines or hurt feels.
mods r fair; if it was meant to it would have happened by now
happened to freecanada :(
I can't help but feel I'm involved in this somehow...
🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔
These are the same, right?
Does chronology matter here? "They started it" playground rules?
Or do you forfeit your right to report a user for breaking rules if you yourself violate the rules in a subsequent response?
So making only one report would be appropriate in that case? I recognize this makes more work for you mods, but shouldn't you expect a report each time a user violates the rules - regardless of how many times they do it within a particular comment thread?
Also, argument is a bit tricky/murky/subjective - right? It's ok to break the rules if you are in an argument?
Thanks! I think ideally the sidebar stuff could be replaced by a single link to it and message that all must read and abide by the rules.
I ask the above for general clarification which will hopefully go into that rules page. I don't report users in any case, and instead remind them that those rules make the community a better place and help them to more effectively communicate/contribute. Perhaps i should just report them instead? Knowing what mods would prefer and why would be helpful.
pretty much
Upon receiving a disrespectful reply, some people will simply reply with an equally disrespectful comment, without reporting. When the initial disrespectful user then reports that reply, it's hypocritical. They will be reprimanded too, even though their original disrespectful comment was not reported.
People are making multiple reports of single users and maybe only one of the reports is valid. It seems people get angry with a user and just open that users account page and report all their recent comments. When you do this, your user name is attached to each report. This kind of report bombing will not be tolerated anymore.
The content policy of this website is well written, and calls for moderators not to be over-bearing, and for users and mods alike to be more tolerant than other similar sites have become. I think this is a great idea and it's my guiding mantra for moderation here.
This includes tolerating a little name calling here and there, which is natural during arguments sometimes, though it greatly weakens the name-caller's position. When 2 users are in a heated argument, calling each other names, and neither of them reports the other, my tendency will be to let them at it. If a third party reports one or the other or both, I might ignore that report since they are not involved. If one of the users in the argument reports the other, both will be reprimanded. if they both made disrespectful comments.
Maybe it would make sense then that "being hypocritical" is against the rules so we can start reporting people for this?
I like this rule.
Thanks mods.
On communities.win domain I believe you can enter a custom report reason. Not yet on scored.co it seems. However that custom report option is often abused, with reports with titles such as "Idiot" or "faggot". I appreciate when someone makes a valid report using the custom option, but more often than not it's stupid stuff and I will ignore it. But from now on I may act on it and ban the user who makes them.
Do tell
Free speech is not free here, and old Clem wants us to memory-hole the shit he does.
Plausible deniability is the name of his game.
BTW, my bro had seen that video, but I never had (like he said it was Digg era).
Myspace was about as good as you could hope to get really.
I mean, some people did some really cool shit on it...I didn't do much, but had appreciation. Music-wise especially.
Oh yeah, the barrier for entry was a bit higher...and not that high either LOL...
Why does it matter who reports a rule violation? If a rule has been violated, the identity of the reporter should not matter.
if you make a report, your user name is attached to it. And that's good thing too, since the report function is being abused. I've often wanted to reprimand users for this, but since it wasn't an explicit rule I didn't.
Are you still going to action those rule violations then or will you ignore them because of who reported them?
Btw, what rule would a comment "Nazis are scum" vioalate to warrant a removal?
Are you confusing me with someone else? There's another guy here who constantly rants about fictional Nazis. I never accused anyone of being a Nazi.
Everyone knows you are the only one supporting Nazis in here.

That's not here, and I'm not clicking your links.
Everyone knows this post was made about you.
Sure thing.
