Those people on that sub that's checking out the "Olympic" are screwed. NASA helped build it so masking tape and aluminum foil were definitely used to some degree. NVM the fact they control it with one of these. (media.scored.co)

Reliable well tested controllers used by millions? yeah this isn't an issue.

I don't know, my Xbox one controllers are cheap a fuck made in China bullshit, and break after a few months use at times. I would have a spare.

Game controllers are considered "good enough" if most of them outlast the console's 90 day warranty. If cars were controlled with these there would be a spike in accidents. Consumer-grade trash is trash.

I have worked in the field of operator controls. Game controllers are not operator controls for vehicles. They do not have fault tolerance and detection engineered in.

You build it into the software for the device. For instance all analog controls have what's known as a 'dead zone'. An area of the controller that is theoretically usable, but the issue is these controllers don't perfectly center themselves, they can be off very slightly. So what happens is the controller will permanently read some value instead of zero. So without a deadzone a craft might permanently move forwards. Anyway you correct for this in software by excluding a range from the controller.

But even the US navy has been using game controllers for their subs: https://www.geekwire.com/2017/u-s-navy-swapping-38000-periscope-joysticks-30-xbox-controllers-high-tech-submarines/

That's for a periscope. It won't kill anyone if it goes haywire. I'm talking about controls for skid steers, excavators, wheel loaders. Big equipment. Your xbox 360 is not good enough for these.

Yes you are right. Those controls normally have large levers meaning very fine control is possible, something not really possible with a tiny thumbstick.

Great technical breakdown of OceanGate’s (is there a more appropriate name for this sub company?) process of “safety” and “traditional methods” in making sure things are designed to spec.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dka29FSZac&t=454s

Included: Interview snippets from CEO where he eschewed hiring subject matter experts who usually hail from the Navy and other fields with “decades” of experience, because he didn’t want is company to be filled with “50 yr old white guys”. He wanted a younger, more dynamic group to “inspire 16 yr olds” to go into oceanography.

Q: Who designed this submarine?

A: Let me introduce you to our D.I.E. compliant team.

This whole thing puts me in mind of the Theranos doc, Out for Blood where the “move fast and break things” ethos was criticized when Silicon Valley begins to to dabble in things that have life-and-death consequences. It’s great when you’re putting a new kind of emoji on an email or imposing a mustache and sunglasses on a selfie, but has potentially different consequences when you’re fucking with people’s lives.

NASA didn't help building it

Why do you lie?

There are conflicting news stories. How can you be so sure?

Which news story claims that NASA helped building the sub?

Nasa consulted the manufacture of the sub. Does that influence the construction of it? Space act of 1958 enables NASA to "consult" manufacturers and gather data. You want sources beyond a quick google search?

OP made the claim so op should provide the evidence for the claim.

It's really that simple.

With NASA being a gov funded entity, who really knows what happened. Bet there is some "top secret" shenanigans that regular people will possibly never know. NASA = never a straight answer because they're gay... Especially with the US gov pushing pride and inclusivity and gayness, only the most Epstein of clients probably know. It is most likely the same as "space" missions.... No regular person knows the extent of fuckery they pull to dupe the masses. Cointelpro IMO.

What are you even arguing here? OP claims that NASA helped build the sub. He has not provided any evidence for that claim.

What does any of your rambling have to do with that?
