As far as I know the main problem at ZNPP is consequences of failed Westinghouse experiments on replacement of Russian fuel assemblies. Really it is not ZNPP that could be a source of disaster, it is other Soviet build NPPs on the territory controlled by Kiev that is a problem, because Westinghouse experimented a lot on them too.
Westinghouse fuel assemblies known as very dangerous since many accidents on Finnish NPPs where they tried to do the same stupid shit with replacement of Russian fuel assemblies and failed. Fuel in Westinghouse assemblies expand up to ten times more than original Russian fuel and the heat dissipation is much worse, so even under perfectly normal working conditions they could melt inside with all serious consequences. Finnish NPP administration send Westinghouse GTFO and pushed for Westinghouse license revoke worldwide. When Westinghouse lost its license for NPP works and making NPP parts, they happily run to Ukraine who at the time began to search alternatives for Russian fuel asemblies for their Soviet NPPs at any cost. First NPP where Westinghouse began their illegal and dangerous experiments was ZNPP, so with high probability there was no choice than to seize ZNPP from insane corrupted experimenters to avoid nuclear disaster near Donbass and Crimea. However, Westinghouse experiments on other Ukrainian NPPs are in progress.
