Rivers don't just dry up. They migrate, usually underground.
Underground aquifers get replenished by surface water.
Might want to get into dowsing.
They are drained to irritate crops that don't belong in the area. Like growing avocados in the American desert.

There’s a small stretch of the miss that has some low levels but recovers to a historically normal level further south. Not sure why they’re fearmongering about it
