They didn’t measure or prove anything! They just assumed and then disingenuously/erroneously taught it as fact from childhood since ancient greece (at least).
One of the most interesting things i discovered in my research is that no one knows who measured and validated the assumption of the spherical world. Furthermore the people who they are taught are responsible for such validations are plainly incorrect. Common erroneous figures attributed, like eratosthenes and columbus, were taught from childhood that the world was spherical, just like we are today - and never once sought to validate or confirm that ostensible “fact”.

To make it more clear. It would require the earth to slow down or speed up it's spin in a relatively quick timeframe for us to notice. The momentum would be steady state on the surface and near surface of the earth..

The globe model still makes sense to me, but I'm interested in viewing and reading the flat earth arguments and believe that the debate will carry on for years. Maybe I will be persuaded one day. Unless I'm in outer space viewing a globe Earth from afar, all I can rely on is satellite images not being faked.
I still don't get the flat earth explanation for a sun set. In the flat earth model the sun moves around the flat earth, which means it shouldn't be setting from where I'm at but just getting smaller as it flies away to another part of the flat earth, getting smaller like a plane in the air flying away from me, which doesn't set on the horizon.

Usually they state flat earth assumptions to make the math easier. Otherwise you have to account for coriolis effect over longer ranges
