I read this really great defense of Velikovsky's work (link below quotes) addressing in particular Carl Sagan's orchestrated attacks on his ideas, which have been the go-to for "deboonking" Velikovsky - I was just scanning through it when I found it online, without the intention of reading the whole thing, but it was utterly compelling and in the end I read the whole thing, and it was a great and informative read. Highly recommended, it backs up Velikovsky and exposes Sagan as a charlatan and a piece of shit:

Haven't seen it tied to galactic fields but it makes sense.

This video provides an interesting perspective on the matter, and shows a clear “cosmic cycle” or maybe “periodic catastrophe”, which isn’t necessarily tied to one cause (i.e. not just asteroids, or solar flares, or pole shifts, or rapid tectonic plate shift, but all of those and others, which seems to “line up” with a chronological periodicity)

The explanation I’ve heard that makes the most sense is the sine-wave motion our solar system makes with the galactic plane. Every 12,000 years we pass from one side of the plane to the other. Likewise, at 6000 and 18000 years our motion changes direction, which could account for the importance of the “transition eras” in between catastrophes
