The originally posted Sign of the Times article gets the math wrong. Real-Time News estimates somewhere between 4.2 to 5 FIFA deaths were the average in previous years. This year it is 21 so far. So the high estimate is a 400% increase and the low estimate is a 320% increase. Note that a 400% increase is five times as many as the original number, which is how it is phrased in the Real-Time News source article.

It occurred to me that crimes could be staged to sidestep terrorism and hate crime charges. It is not implausible that a coincidence like this could occur.
