Becoming what you hate is a well-known psychological phenomenon, described by different names — identification with the aggressor, projective identification, mimetic rivalry, even the law of psychological contagion. The common thread is that the mind takes on the qualities it fixates on, even in opposition. Nietzsche warned of this when he said, “Be careful when you fight monsters, lest you become one.” You don’t have to hate your garbage when you take it to the curb, or your shit when you flush the toilet. You just recognize what’s waste, and deal with it accordingly.

Hate and anger are a weakness, not a strength. They drive action from boldness rather than true bravery, producing deeds that may appear bold but lack foundation. Genuine bravery arises from acts of love, which proceed with understanding and clarity, in contrast to the confusion and distortion that accompany hatred.

Hateful people act as if they are God, claiming authority over others through fear and judgment. This is not new; the scriptures note that Satan “disguises himself as an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14), presenting himself as divine while spreading deception. Like those who follow him, the hateful presume they wield ultimate power, yet their influence is rooted in illusion, not truth.
