I feel confident I know basically what took place, but I have no idea how much of that is in "the files". My point, though, is that if I'm correct and the key points are therein contained, the vast majority of people simply could not believe it.
It would be a case of mass cognitive dissonance. Many would claim the documents themselves were fake, and most would simply subconsciously deflect it all away as if it did exist.
The point is, it's difficult to see what would be productive out of the whole exercise. If I were Trump (and I'm not), I would just release what part of them I thought the populace could actually handle and say it was everything.
