You can't discern what's going on if you lack the correct anthropology and cosmology. If man is just another animal, a purely determined biological machine and is not created in God's image with free will, why would it matter if he's treated like an animal and exploited? I too think this is plausible. Why? Because the sheer scope of the effort is massive, and an advanced entity would conclude force of arms is not the best way to conquer - you use economic means and psychological means to control populations. Why is anyone seriously considering this nonsense? It's a STORY, just like that book of bronze age myths from a specific group of middle eastern people that believe only 144,000 of them are going to be allowed to live in paradise after they die.
