I went to school with someone that really wanted to work for google. They got hired, and they hated it. Left tech entirely.

I can support that observation. I do engineering contracts and was inside Google. So full of politics in management, liberalism in co-workers, and equity. Plus, upper management is in bed with the deep state but also criminal capitalists at the same time. I f'ing loathed it.

EDIT: in my other comment I said "higher up in school". I actually said "higher up in skill" and my piece of trash phone heard "school" - a noteworthy mistake, especially given that I didn't get beyond 1 cash-paid semester in college.

Fucking 100% agree. The panel interview shit is such a stupid waste of time, especially when you are higher up in skill, so then you're being interviewed by a bunch of idiots who don't even know enough to interview you, which just makes it awkward. Fucking tech companies are scum.

I work contract, too, and also for similar reasons - also, the loneliness of being a "gun-for-hire" contractor is always preferable to the standard induction into some kind of "family" of homos and liberal idiots, each of whom, while being paid 30-50% less, is marinated in accolades, titles, and every other manner of garnishment, every few months.

It's been tough, btw, for the past year or so, getting the same dollars out of these tech companies. I've had to put a lot more effort.

I hear you, and no shame in locking in some money while you can. I was in the exact same boat and then the company I worked for ended up selling.

First: I work in tech. I know this world. It's not the best, but it's not the worst either.

Second: Compensation is awesome, but also a little evil. Tech companies are paying through the nose, so there is a lot of pressure to keep costs down. This is why they pay a small portion of comp via cash (salary) and a larger portion through stock or "promises of future value." Those promises do not always come true, but fortunately the salaries start around $130k per year (in California). Where it gets really evil is that if you are really good, they company will intentionally overpay you. If you have discipline, that's great, save your money. But most of us buy more a more expensive home with great schools for our kids and a much better car or two or three and then... we cannot find any other job at any other tech company that will match our insane compensation package--because they do not know how good we are and doubt we could be worth that much. Certainly not from a simple interview. This is known as "golden handcuffs."

Third: These companies are not "woke" because of the compensation. They are woke because they primarily hire college graduates and the vast majority of college graduates have been brainwashed for the past 17+ years with communist nonsense.

Lastly: I love working in tech. My pay is awesome and my co-workers are really great. I will admit not all companies are the same though, you have to move around until you find one you like.

Da fuq are you talking about? Equity packages that vest over time are incredibly common. These employers don't hire people with the intent to cheat them out of their stock option. It's not even really a possibility because as you said they vest over time. Even if they fired you after a year you're still going to get one year's worth of the stock offering.

By your own admission you've never worked for one of these companies, but you know that everyone who does is an npc? You're the fucking npc, clown. Keep driving that forklift in the warehouse and feeling superior.

Well, you're probably right. I don't have that kind of friend relationship with my manager. But then I don't really want that kind of relationship with my manager either. I work to get paid, not banter.

Every job expects the employees to do certain tasks, that's why they hire people. Are you telling me you have a job where you do whatever the fuck you want and somebody pays you?

"These employers don't hire people with the intent to cheat them out of their stock option."

Happens ALL the time in Silicon Valley. They hire with promises then later do a corporate re-org and people get tossed like empty cans. So much corporate HR is composed of yes-women and DEIs. They will screw you over in a New York minute.

Yea, this is unfortunately true. I've seen packages that vest stock 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% over four years, then they fire you within 1-2 years and it cost them literally nothing. Stock needs to vest evenly over the duration of the grant, but some company execs think they are clever.

Being hired with a pay that is just good, not great at a 40 hrs turns into a nightmare when the work culture expects 60+ hours. Some people are willing to do it, some people have more self respect for themselves.

How the fuck would you know anything about it? You said yourself you've never worked at any tech company. You just made this post because you want to look down on people and feel superior to the "npc tech workers that have no self-respect". Fuck you. You sound like a complete asshole trash talking people you've never met and never will meet because you could never get a job at one of these places by calling the interviewers faggots.

No, I never took the vax and I never got covid. Your employer didn't ask you to get vaxxed? If so it's only because they don't do any business with the US gov.
