3D printing was all the rave back around 2012. Now I don't hear anything about it.
I hate having to buy anything made out of plastic. I should be able to just print it with a 3D printing machine and the file for the 3D scan.
Why was this technology basically brought to a halt and not developed?
It seems technology is stalled since 2010.
Not much innovation going on.
Perhaps the motivation and incentive has been removed.
My dad uses his 3d printer all of the time. I looked into getting one, but they seem really high maintenance. I'll wait until they have evolved a bit more.
Check out Prusa printers. They’re the most low-maintenance I have found. I don’t have their most recent model, but I want one.
Progress hasn’t stalled, but the latest innovations tend to solve problems you only care about if you’re really into 3d printing- better bed leveling, the ability to print a part with multiple materials or colors, easier replacement of nozzles.
I think the misconception is that they’re meant as a replacement for buying plastic parts. They’re more geared towards people who want to design and build things.
You are you getting downvoted? You gave your perspective in answer to the question and not only that you have experience to back your answer. This i expect to be commonplace at reddit but not here.
There has been plenty of activity with 3D printing the last several years. There are communities and youtube channels centered around it.
Yeah i know. I just expected it to catch on faster. The tech's been out for 10+ years and it's still very stagnate.
I still buy lots of plastic parts that i should be able to print. For example all the fucking irrigation parts i use on the farm are made of plastic.
I wonder if i could print something equivalent to PVC fittings which have doubled in price since the scamdemic.
I bought a plastic staple welder I'm going to use to try to do some fiberglass repairs with.
So you expect other people to spend time in effort into creating models so you can print them?
Are you a commie or just lazy?
Can you post a picture of your 3D printing setup?
You do have a 3D printer, right?
Once you’ve gotten your use out of the blueprint, throwing it a public forum for others to use gets done a lot. Some people want the fame or adding lots of useful stuff. Some just want to be kind. Some are autistic and want every thing in the world catalogued. I didn’t rip all the roms I have for my emulators, fellow internet rockstars did it for me and uploaded it for others to use. Depending on the community some of them aren’t full of assholes and some people give good advice and plans.
Aren't there 3D scanners than can fairly create the model for printing a copy?
I’m not aware of any good ones. I think the issue is, you have to convert your model from an STL file, which is like a geodesic mesh, into a set of commands for the printer. If you have a crappy STL file, it doesn’t convert well and can jam your printer. I think going from a laser scan of an object to a “clean” mesh is pretty hard.
So are you doing it or not?
If not, what the fuck are you complaining about?
Maybe 3D scanning technology was thwarted or defunded because of the threat of ghostguns being 3D printed. That might be the conspiracy here.
On another subject, I heard your beloved Ukraine is trying to cope with the inevitable fact that they are losing the war.
So you don't have a 3D printer and you know nothing about 3D printing.
Why am I not surprised?
You created a problem in your head and then got angry about that narrative.
Hilarious.
I'm 3D printing pikes.
Lol the forum slider thinks keeping an eye on a webcam and storing a few reels of materials is too much for normies. They sell that shit at home Depot for $100 for a reason. My uncles are extremely bad with technology and they've managed to save a ton on tabletop miniatures by printing most things. Too bad the block function only works on posts and not comments. AYD really love that.
