People were fooled into thinking their EVs would be more "future-proof" than ICE vehicles, when really they can be more easily taken out. People were fooled into thinking their cars create less pollution when the batteries are awful for the environment during both creation and decommissioning, and their power primarily comes from fuels burned elsewhere.

Usually, systems that could be controlled by power grid operator use power grid itself to send signals. This signals could be easily filtered out by simple low-pass filter. So no commands from operator will reach such system at all, while power will be delivered.
In case of cellular/radio control, things are even simplier.
It is fascinating to observe that whinning about screwing people who bought into EV crap, with absolutely no any attempts to tell that people how to circumvent or workaround this shit.
Either this situation is on purpose and those "independent journalists" really just do more fearmongering to their target audience, either "independent journalist" too dumb or/and too coward to tell target audience how to fight back.
