What we think of as conventional air defenses are optimized for objects like aircraft, cruise missiles, rockets and ballistic missiles. That is, fast moving, big pieces of metal, launched from far away, etc.
Ukraine, for example, has had a terrible time trying to interdict the Russian Geran-2 suicide drone (based on the Iranian Shahed 136). It's 11 ft long, made mostly out of plywood, and uses what is basically a lawnmower engine.
The Geran-2's may cost as little as $10K. On the other side of the equation, remember all the noise about the Patriot systems, as if they were crucial? When they fire they use two missiles, and the ones the Ukrainians are probably using cost $3M each. See the mismatch?
The point is, we all need to have a more sophisticated view when "air defense" and airborne threats are discussed.
There's no way a small drone flew from Ukraine to Moscow. Air defenses are not designed to intercept small, slow, low-flying objects launched from maybe a mile away.
You are aware there’s pro west Russians aren’t you? Some rich kid that can no longer go traveling because of the sanctions can easily become twisted. Think of the stupid bitch that blew up an army blogger a while ago. She was a russian liberal degenerate who was upset at the sanctions stopping her from backpacking.
Why would they need a false flag? Ukraine is already admitting to attempting to kill Putin with drones.
Because this way they have nice video footage.
True and it also could have been a russian traitor. There’s enough of them just look at people like Daniil Orain etc.
A poorly made drone, made it through bad defenses, to miss it's target.
This is our reality. This has always been the reality. At least during my life time it has.
Everything else associated with this is fiction. Up and to, the motivations for the Ukraine agents who committed to these actions in the first place.
Things happen. Write the story after the fact to suite your end goals.
I think it was Pee-Wee Herman on Mescalin, trying to secure Chinese gold for UNICEF. Don't ask me how I know. I have my sources.
I just find it hard to believe that Russia is unable to protect the Kremlin and parade ground against such slow-flying drones.
I mean I knew that their army is trash but it would mean it was completely useless.
Drone warfare is going to get crazy in the near future.
So hard to stop a swarm of them.
And so many soft targets that they can mess with.

Look at the time a small piper aircraft crashed in the White House. It can happen.

So Russia's security in 2323is worse than US in 1994. Nice.
Maybe. I just know that low and slow flying objects can sneak in under radar.

Balloons?
There is a video of one drone exploding and setting fire to a roof.
The comment was more in line with answering the OP question of incompetence. We had a balloon flying over us without response
Sorry, but I'm not a US citizen so I don't always immediately think that every comment is related to the US.
Do you mean the balloon that was shot down?
Yes, but not until it had flown over the US for a while. The Chinese claim it was a weather balloon. It's all good
Look how those goalposts move.
Your words:
It made it past the US into the Atlantic Ocean before it was shot down. Goal posts never moved

If it was some Russian kid, it would be even worse. Imagine some kid being able to penetrate Kremlin's air defense with a fucking drone.
Then again, Kremlin's air defense was always shit. I remember when some German kid landed a plane on the Red Square.
