CAD is something like 0.75 of USD so it is slightly less expensive than looks like. And IDK, may be it is possible to find pork cheaper, say CAD 5/lb in Toronto, but then math will bring even worse result. More than 1lb a day into poor baby? Perverts.
P.S. In Russia pork is ~300 RUR/kg on average i.e. ~$1.85/lb if you are interested. In regions could be slightly cheaper.
Wholesale pork is somewhere around $.80 a pound from producers. Meat packing plants, waste and retail Take the cost up from there. When you research meat prices it will be labeled in 100 weight (100 pounds live animal) here in the US
Interesting. nearly same here if you buy a whole pig as dressed carcass from farm. ~130 RUR/kg = ~$.80/lb
Retailing adds a lot, yes.
Most prices are globally uniform
Hard to say. There are a lot of products that depend on climate, resources and so on. You can't have same price of oranges everywhere, f.e..
Pork is occasional match, really Russia a colder country, so growing a pig needs more energy. But energy is cheaper here, and that make price equal. Retailing pork does not depend on climate, but depend on fuel price, shop land price/taxes/rent and so on. So retailing here is cheaper.
Also currency rates, stock market games and so on.
However it could be interesting to convert prices into something fixed and independent, like total energy units needed to create product and compare.
