Relatively good explanation. But that model is not only predict periodic table, but also give a clue what chemical compositions of different elements are possible, why there is noble gases and answers to many other questions.
That is how a good theory/model looks like. If it fit to everything we know from practice, answers most questions we have about subject, and gives correct predictions, it does not matter, if model looks weird for somebody, we could perfectly use it, until better theory or final truth will came out.
So more then 2000 years ago someone pitched the idea of an atom, and now, well early 1900's they are just beginning to find out about it?
Im really curious about how that is possible.
Science today is just finding a really good explanation and/or formula for something that baffled scientists a few years before. Somethings mentioned and a few years later they actually can "proof" that claim.
I think they exist yes, but i havent seen one myself. i think its just sound (almost) frozen in our 3d world.
Thats why it can be percieved als a point but also as a wave. And even atoms are 99% empty iirc.
Chemistry is just a extension of nature. i mean the simple thing of boiling water so it becomes a gas is already chemistry.
i think the more interesting question here is: if atoms are real, why havent we figured out alchemy, in particular the base to noble transmutation of metals.
But giving the fact that its the base structure of molecules, sure they exist.

Same applied to conspiracy theories too.

Do you believe that Atoms aren't real?
No im more fascinated by the statement that some 2000 years ago they already seemed to know what an atom was.
If you don't believe in atoms how is chemistry possible?

We have. It's just very expensive to do so.
We have? Ok, i did not know, can you provide me with an article? I cannot find one myself.
That would make a good post, Karl.

Atoms aren't real
Please, there must be someone who believes this.
