I was contemplating launching a replacement for Voat when it closed, but I waited until early December 2020 to bring the idea up, and even though people were receptive, by then it was so late in the game and a couple others has already gotten clones off the ground, so I didn't bother. Voat was so great, but rather than launching crowd funding they decided to close it JUST when it was about to be needed the very most. I was highly suspicious of this timing, especially when coupled with the knowledge that vote was the official Q stomping grounds. The whole thing felt like an operation, in hindsight.
"Switzerland seemed like a great option in the beginning, but when it comes to freedom of speech, the main idea behind Voat, U.S. law by far beats every other candidate country we’ve researched."

Ran out of money.
I wonder how many people used the site.... gui was always meh but the content/community was getting pretty good there at the end... ironically / tragically.
It's more or less true. The actual story was more complicated. Putitout basically shut down the site. I think he had done with all the hassle of trying to run and keep alive a free speech platform. There was also an issue of funding. Running these sites is expensive. But I believe a 3rd party contributed a fair sum of money to keep the site 'alive'. But I think it was basically a poison pill. I believe the money came with strings attached (maybe moderation) but this I think ultimately contributed to the demise of the site.
But most the user base itself just migrated to a new home, which is voat.xyz or later rebranded to talk.lol, some probably ended on poal.co
The site really was the community, and the community just moved. But yeah I get your point. Putitout while technically the owner was barely present in the last year before he shut it down.
Why? There was no like, legitimate reason given. Basically just got crucified on Christmas of all days. I think atko is running a left reddit clone. No idea what happened to putt.
My conspiracy is that it was tied to jan6. The owners got wind and gave everyone a Christmas present, shutting it down, forcing Them to go to plan b, without a base to blame it on.
Q-LARP isn’t real. The ZOG emperor is a traitor. No one is coming to save you. It was always a hoax. There was no narrative. There was no plan. There are no white hats. January 6 had nothing behind it.

Mhmm, sure.
Totally forgot about voat, went there to read the discussions with the pizzagate maps and such, the rabbit hole just went on forever
It just moved. Try voat.xyz or talk.lol
this is not true
Seems to be a Voat clone rather than “moved."
yes

The site “moving” means that whoever owned it retained ownership. The other sites are just clones.

Yeah the community didn’t all move together to the same place man.
nah, that voat is jew infested already
