Yes take the getty image and reverse image search it and you will find the original Getty source which someone has already traced to the owner and verified as legit and they commented on one of these posts their findings.
Getty also has a public review system before approving a photo.

You can if you zoom in by the area around the square, and also there's a diagonal line in the bottom two photos starting from the elastic band into the start of the square that doesn't look like just hair. It almost looks like there's a notch missing from the black elastic band, but then it goes into the square area.

My comment was a tongue-in-cheek reference to flat earth. Elsewhere in the thread, someone pointed out that the "round" band-aid looks square.
As for what it looks like to me, after taking a closer look, I can see a circular outline and even what looks like the pad of a band-aid. It appears to be folded over part of his ear. Here is the thing, I do not think it is to cover an injury, but rather a way to hold a tiny speaker in place. He needs to be reminded of what to say because of his dementia.
