Those things could be because they reported past deaths in a day, or isolated incidents such as a nursing home getting infected and many people there dying (although probably not everyone would die in the same day, so probably this is not the case).

you creatively leave out that the unvax’d portion (20%) of the country makes up a disproportionately high percentage (50%) of those deaths. And the majority of the vax’d dying are already-ill seniors, but the majority of the unvax’d dying are healthy young adults.

It looks to me like according to this graph there were about 75 deaths on a day in mid August 2020. January 2021 had much higher daily totals.
I will be watching to see how this plays out for the remainder of this year.
