They studied the effects this lack of contrails had on the weather.
And now it's funny, the media is trying to push this idea that COVID19 is somehow capable of solving global climate problems by reducing civilian aerosol emissions (the old "hairspray is killing the ozone" blame it on the plebs tactic). When in reality it was probably all the airplanes that were grounded due to lockdowns, which will cause a temperature shift of 1-2 degrees celsius which can certainly alter some ecosystems and habitats.
