Years later, that number is obviously lower, as per the second article.

The Times article very clearly contradicts your claim. All you did was quote the headline, pretend that this was the total number and compare that with the 2024 article.
So, how about you explain why you did that? Why did you pretend that the total number of survivors stated by the Times article when in fact, the article states 500000?
