I agree with your entities theory being probable.
I've been following this awhile, they don't know how it works and the people that work closely with this have said the same. There is also proof of emergent behavior that wasn't programmed, it's happening and I'm not sure who you'd listen to but I will find more info for you, if you'd like.
I'm a bullet too but I'm better at disarming myself now and I think I do a lot less damage than I have in the past.
There are real concerns about LLMs that probably ought to be addressed.
I don't think it's a tool, per se, I think the inner workings are infiltrated by entities hell bent against God and using humans as bullets to shoot at Him.
