Seems that the virus hypnosis is largely fear-based. However, there seems to be a large amount of anger-based hypnosis being disseminated in the area of "race relations". In that case, the anger is self-compounding.
The larger goal is the same. Increase tension. Build up the excitement and fear. Make people highly suggestable.

IMO it's accelerated evolution, not depopulation, that they are after.
Would suggest somewhere close to the great lakes. Lots of fresh water for the foreseeable future. The rural areas are still quite freedom-focused.

There is a spiritual component. Think "Monsters Inc", where extra-dimensional entities feed off emotional energy from this world. As in the movie, and as shown by the history of the occult, the energy of children is especially prized.
This is why the primary effect is child abuse. Teaching them they are diseased, preventing them from seeing other children and family, making them go through humiliating rituals, and of course, injecting them with drugs. Having the abuse inflected by family members and authority figures, who deny that it is abuse.
Do enough of this abuse and people break into mental pieces. This process is referred to as trauma based mind control. The person can have multiple versions of reality, which a control can flip through like pages in a book. These are typically seeded at a young age by mass media. The spiritual energy of this person is available for the entities to harvest.

Without those past experiences, it would be easier for them to drop in on the big air jump at X-games than rebel now. And the red bull athletes didn't start on the big air jump, they started as kids on a 1' jump in their driveway.
There is a ritual element as well. Society is being initiated into something new. We all have a good guess as to what it is from the symbology. Rituals and symbols tap into a part of the brain that is deeper than critical thought.
