Could be a bad translation but I also can't get behind that "good works" rhetoric. Anything Good comes out of God, not us. We shouldn't be trying to acheive good works on Earth, or act as though it buys us salvation; we should strive to act in accordance with God's Will, through which all things are possible.
Sounds heretical to me but he's "God's Chosen" pope, right?
No, the Papacy is the antichrist, that man of sin, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.
I also strongly caution you about throwing good works in the bin altogether. I highly recommend you read James 2:14-26.
For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead. (James 2:26)

How could he be "God's chosen" pope?
(Pope is "father" in Italian.)

Being (life) moved a-cross (inception towards death) implies rising during fall, hence failure of the cross.
