I get that some people want privacy. But if you won the mega billion ultra powerball multistate lottery and took the one time payout of 800 million (which happens every few years), human nature and history tells us that one of these jokers, who are ordinary people, are going to make themselves famous with odd charity donations or buying stupid things on a whim that make the news.
I don't read about this sort of thing happening. I suppose it's happening, but I don't see it anywhere. Is the lottery at the highest levels a scam, that is to say, no real human being is getting the cash? I'd like to be shown otherwise. Thoughts?

My thought is that no human being is actually getting the big lottery payouts. Some of the smaller payouts, sure, but not the huge ones.
I like the theory that they are payouts from the government for shadow clandestine type stuff.
It's a scam,you buy the tickets and they put the numbers in a computer to NOT be pulled.they draw numbers that have not been played,it's a simple task for a computer.
I wouldn't be surprised. It's a scam based on the statistical mathematics of it. I think I've played the lottery like 3x in my whole life just for the heck of it.

A long time ago, in the 1990s, I remember a news story about a lottery winner who went broke. I also remember one fellow on Oprah talking about how miserable his life was after he won. You don't see these often anymore. Maybe it's the media landscape has changed, and they aren't news worthy enough.
