The way Steam/Proton is going; you are only going to have to wait a bit before that is no longer the case. I too will wipe my remaining Windows machines for Linux once that happens.
If someone writes bad firmware that isn't the OS's fault. But you're right there are still ways to spy, I'm just saying it isn't in the OS itself. All that is open source.
