Not to mention the nature of light itself. Im not suggesting that light rotates around the planet, but in certain atmospheric conditions, im sure what is being seen is the curve of visible light and it appears to be "flat" due to the direction you are looking.
Whatever though. Alot of it has to do with the lens being used on the camera as well.

Greece should be 45 MILES below the curve, that is a hello of a visible light.
