Hardly that tiny shares could compare with ~40% of Murdoch. He could also own more that 50% through proxies including BlackRock/Vanguard.
BlackRock/Vanguard/whatever are just a cloak to hide real owners, who could hide behind other private proxy funds, holdings, banks, corporations and so on.
Vanguard/BlackRock are just an entities everybody interested could point to like "they own whole World" and think the job of uncovering owners of the World is done. But its not. It is a distraction. Real persons who use such entities as a proxy are hiding behind that curtain (or more likely behind chains of such curtains). It could be uncomfortable for some TPTB memeber to openly own most assets in the world, they don't like attention. As far as I understand, publicl companies have to disclose their shareholders (or shareholders have to disclose what shares public companies they own, does not matter,really). So if you want to hide, it is logical to use some private company who will buy you a share under its name, and will keep your name as a private client in secret. It's even not a big deal who own that Vanguard/BlackRock things (yes, they highly likely a persons trusted by TPTB, but hardly TPTB themselves), much more important who are their main private clients.
