We had the school shooting in TN, the Miami Beach shooting, a mall shooting, and now a bank shooting. All conveniently as primary season begins to spin its wheels with various candidates mumbling about running.

You have to divide mass shootings into three categories to make meaningful hypotheses from what the number would mean, politically speaking.
Category one - chimpouts. The numbers here are virtually meaningless except as Ben Shapiro rhetoric of types like him saying "if you really cared about gun crime, you'd do something about Chicago". Lots of "mass shootings" of blacks by blacks. When have they ever mattered? I would like to see political reality shift because of one. They don't.
Category two - the unexpected. Real crazy guy goes on real shooting spree. DC sniper as the example. The result of these? Depends on the demographics of the victims. Old gun control bills are dusted off and reintroduced, but that's pretty much it, because they don't pass into law.
Category three - the planned. Demographics of the victims are made for maximum emotional impact and/or demonization of gun owners or conservatives. Not only are old gun control bills that failed to pass dusted off and reintroduced, but they have a chance of actually passing during the "crisis" phase right after the event.
The planned ones also have a tendency of something being very off with them, whether it's the circumstances of the shooting, the timing, the target, or the immediate federal response. Helps when we figure out the weapons the dude used.
DC Sniper was also a chimp out
By "chimp out" I use the usual definition of (something like) a black guy shooting up a BBQ after getting mad about his woman getting hit on, not a careful plan of attack using holes put in vehicles to snipe at people from a safe distance and remain undiscovered.
Does it happen more? Or has does the media just make a bigger fuss about? (because no one cared before when a bunch a gang bangers shot each other).
We've had an entire election cycle's worth of mass shootings within the span of an election cycle.

Here you go
They've never stopped.
I don't know for sure but it is usually the reporting that changes, not the frequency of the crime.
e.g. all of a sudden "train derailment" is the story of the month until the next thing, then you never hear of them again, even though that frequency didn't change.
Gonna get worse as the economy tanks, cars repossessed, layoffs, divorces, evictions. This amount of loss people won't be going out quietly.
The season of sacrifice. It will end in May most likely. So shouldn't have anymore school shootings after a couple more weeks.
