Gold will always be a relevant material that stands above most because of its properties. Shiny, dense, small, good conductor.
Given that everybody is simply a collection of thoughts from the past all the old experiences still hold.
This means that even after nuclear armageddon /alien invasion / wef slavery in a matrix or whatever, the majority of people hold fast to the idea that gold will be a usable tool for exchange for survival bits.
