It's worse than they let on. I'm lucky that I'm trying to be more healthy. Groceries are 3 to 4 times more expensive than last year. ( with less coupons available) And, with tipping inflation going out anyway has gotten to be obnoxious.
Don't buy anything before 1979 due to lead and asbestos. That doesn't mean everything has it, just beware of the possibility. Early 50's the issue was lead paint. Asbestos is primarily found in drywall and vinyl flooring
I was looking into the lead paint thing a while back. Apparently, it was only an issue because they said kids would eat paint chips. I've never seen a kid eating the paint chipping off of a wall, but it seems like any other toxic substance you have to keep an eye on as a parent.
One thing lead paint did really well, was block wireless signals. Sometimes I wonder if that was the real reason the banned lead paint.
Lead is sweet, that's why kids ate it. It is considered abated if it's covered for 20 years. There is a product that paints over lead paint. 2 layers of 3 mils each layer. Some people just put a layer of drywall over the wall to encapsulate. It's typically found on plaster walls
New work is engineered, really not an issue. Older work was hit or miss with quality. They're well built homes where true craftsman employed their skills and some truly hacked up work where the workers lacked skills
Massive immigration causes growth, with inflation this causes a housing shortage which tends to increase the cost of housing. It is now double what it was 5 years ago. Around here the median price for a house is 400k. If you were saving for a new house your money is now worth half as much. There's a reason why they call owning your own home the American dream.....because they arrange it that way.
yeah that's why I'm building one myself
now do since 2015...
the market has been so fucked since 2008
Americans don't get paid enough not to use their cards in most cases. The days where credit card dept was all useless shopping ended long ago.

Lead paint was above anything else for preserving exterior wood.

I never knew it was sweet. Interesting.
